AAA Out-Draws SummerSlam

Alberto del Rio TripleManiaThe 22nd annual AAA TripleMania event in Mexico City on 8/17 was a legitimate sellout, with an estimated 21,000 fans on hand. The announcement of Alberto del Rio (El Patron) making his return, and a teased appearance of WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio added a lot of anticipation to the show, adding to an already strong card that packed the house last Sunday afternoon. 

In comparison WWE SummerSlam, which went head-to-head with TripleMania on PPV and iPPV, had an announced attendance of 17,537. To be fair, WWE packed the Staples Center to max capacity, about the same as they did in 2013. 

Sin Cara to Face Long-Time Rival

The original Sin Cara, more commonly known internationally as Mistico – now working in AAA as Myzteziz – will be facing Perro Aguayo Jr. on September 7th in Pachuca, Mexico for AAA. The two were the biggest stars in Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) during its last major boom, two of the biggest names in Mexico, and will be facing off for the first time in six years. 

Shelton Benjamin Undergoes Surgery

Shelton Benjamin has returned to the United States to undergo knee surgery. The surgery was planned prior to New Japan’s G1 Climax tournament, where he worked a style for several weeks that wouldn’t further aggravate the injury. 

Big Match Set for London

Revolution Pro Wrestling in London, England has announced a huge main event for 10/19. This year’s New Japan G1 Climax winner Kazuchika Okada will face this year’s Best of the Super Juniors winner, Ricochet. For more information, check out revolutionprowrestling.com
