As we have been reporting the past few weeks, Rey Mysterio has basically been forced to remain with WWE for an additional year due to a clause in WWE contracts which allows the company to renew talent deals based on time they might miss due to injury.
According to The Wrestling Observer, when Mysterio’s contract with WWE expired, he reportedly had a conversation with Triple H during which he said he was not interested in renewing his contract. Following the talk, Triple H and Mysterio had a handshake agreement that the two sides would be parting ways.
However, Vince McMahon then had Mark Carrano of Talent Relations call Mysterio and notify him that WWE was invoking the clause in his contract which would see his deal automatically renewed for one more year.
Mysterio has not competed in WWE since WrestleMania, as he is still sidelined with a hand injury, and while there was talk of bringing him in to do media for SummerSlam since he lives in California, WWE ultimately decided against it to avoid any questions about his status arising.
