As we have reported, Rey Mysterio made a pre-recorded video appearance at the recent TripleMania PPV for AAA, even though he is still under contract with WWE. There has been a lot of speculation on if Rey would face any repercussions for appearing on the show, as he is currently wrapped up in a contract dispute that will see him employed for the next year, against his will.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there has been no contact between WWE and Rey Mysterio since May. Furthermore, the company did not reprimand him for appearing for another promotion, he was not asked to participate in the 8/23 live event in his hometown of San Diego, and WWE’s legal department has not made an effort to contact AAA about the incident.
On a related note, there has also been no contact between WWE and the recently fired Alberto del Rio, even though he has already accepted independent bookings in the U.S. and internationally, well before his 90-day non-compete contact expires. There’s been no word on whether or not the company plans to pursue the year-long ban on wrestling in the U.S., as reports have previously indicated.
