8/31 WZ Recap: Jake Roberts Hospitalized, Batista Vocal About WWE Run & Future, WWE Magazine Shuts Down, Hogan Calls Austin a B**ch, NXT Call-Ups & More

jake robertsProbably the biggest wrestling news story this week – WWE Hall of Famer Jake “The Snake” Roberts was hospitalized in Las Vegas, where he was in and out of consciousness, and in pretty scary condition for quite some time. The latest reports are saying that he’s been moved to a new facility to better handle the fluid that’s built up in his lungs, that’s now spread. Everyone close to the situation, including wrestler Sinn Bodhi and Diamond Dallas Page, has said that they are remaining positive, and we will of course continue to provide as many updates on Jake’s condition as we can.

Big Dave Batista was certainly vocal this week about his recent run in WWE, and his future with the company. He was on two episodes of Talk is Jericho, and recently said that he doesn’t even have time for a return in 2014. After Guardians of the Galaxy became the most profitable movie of the year, it’s hard to blame him. He also commented about his frustrations with WrestleMania 30, how WWE handled Daniel Bryan, and a lot more. Batista did mention several weeks ago that he wants to have a retirement match against Triple H, possibly at WrestleMania 31, so it’s not likely we’ve seen the last of him.

ric flairThe WWE Magazine has officially shut down. It’s been around for more than 30 years, but due to budget cuts and declining numbers in print media, the mag finally got the ax. The last issue comes out in early September.

In NXT news, there has been talk of bringing Charlotte to the main roster in the near future. The reason for this is that WWE still hasn’t come up with anything for Ric Flair to do on a full-time basis. There’s also been a rumor going around that AJ Lee is distancing herself from the company, and may eventually join her husband (CM Punk) in Chicago for an early retirement. Charlotte is currently the NXT Women’s Champion, but will defend her title against Bayley on the 9/11 two-hour live special
