The Very Latest Backstage Details on CM Punk’s Relationship with WWE & What His New Deal with the Company Really Means

cm punkAccording to PWInsider.com, WWE and CM Punk have obviously had some recent contact as WWE is once again selling Punk merchandise via WWE.com.

This of course means some sort of new deal has been worked out between Punk and WWE, but according to sources close to Punk, the deal should not be taken to mean Punk is returning to WWE, as he has not signed a new performer contract with the company.

Sources close to Punk insist he is still a retired pro wrestler and will not be returning to WWE nor any wrestling company anytime soon.

Regarding Punk’s previous contract with WWE, he was under contract with the company until July of this year, which enabled WWE to continue selling his merchandise. Once Punk’s deal officially expired, he took the CM Punk rights with him, which is why a letter was sent to WWE by Punk attorneys regarding his likeness being used for merchandise and WWE 2k15. It appears now as if something has been worked out between Punk and WWE which will allow the company to continue selling CM Punk merchandise.

Paglino: A lot of people seem to be “outraged” that Punk is wanting money in exchange for WWE using his likeness for merchandise and video games, but I don’t see how this is any different from any other wrestler deal.

WWE legends have Legends Contracts in place which basically ensure them royalties for merchandise/video game sales, and the Punk situation seems no less ordinary than any other deal for a talent no longer working for the company in a performer capacity.
