Exclusive: Update on Rey Mysterio’s Post-WWE Plans & Future in Wrestling, Lucha Underground Coming to Apple TV in 2015?

Lucha Underground on Apple TV

Wrestlezone has been told that the El Rey network is working on a deal with Apple to bring their weekly series Lucha Underground to Apple TV. This would enable users who have the Apple TV device – or, theoretically, an iTunes account – to purchase individual episodes of the series. There would also likely be an option to buy a season pass.

Rey Mysterio Post-WWE

Rey MysterioAs we have been reporting, long-time wrestling legend Rey Mysterio met with officials backstage at this week’s WWE RAW. While it’s unknown if the two sides came to an agreement, he will not be joining the crew on this week’s UK Tour, and has no plans to return to WWE television.

One source told us that Mysterio is extremely burnt out on wrestling, after years of injuries and working a full-time schedule travelling all over the world. The situation is similar to CM Punk, who was burnt out and banged up earlier this year, and simply stopped showing up for work after the Royal Rumble PPV in January.

There have been reports that Rey wants to return to AAA in Mexico, and potentially even taking a lead role in Lucha Underground to bring mainstream exposure to the promotion. However, we’ve also been told that Mysterio wants to take a long break from wrestling after his WWE contract expires in Spring 2015, and is interested in taking acting classes, and picking up roles in Mexican telenovelas.
