WWE Live Event Report

11/7/14

Birmingham, England

I attended the Birmingham Live event last night.

Before the event started Byron Sexton asked the fans to tweet to decide the Slater Gator (w Hornswoggle) vs Los Matadores (W El Torito) match the options were a 6 man tag or a dance off. The consensus around me on the floor was that we wanted to see wrestling not a horrible dance off.

Triple H appeared on the big screen to begin proceedings and we got the first match of the evening.

Sheamus vs The Miz (w/Damien Mizdow)

The Miz came down first and cut a promo insulting the crowd, the city and our accents. He was on good form and when the crowd began to cheer for Mizdow, he finished his promo by saying ‘Oh, you love Mizdow? You do realise Mizdow copies everything I do so therefore you all love me? Thank you Birmingham I love you too.’

Sheamus came out to a good reception and the match began. It started off in a slow fashion with the Miz escaping the ring at every oppotunity. There was a moment where he slipped trying to get up onto the apron. The crowd let him know we saw and he was clearly trying not to laugh. He got on the kic and told us he meant to do it and the next time he tried to get up onto the apron did exactly the same.

The match itself was very good, although Mizdow was the main focus of the crowd until Miz sent him to the back.

Sheamus wins with the Brogue Kick.

Winner: Sheamus

They played a Video which featured Vince McMahon saying sorry for the delay of the Network, it was roundly booed.

Mark Henry was next to come out to a good reception again, which was taken up a notch when it was Xavier Woods that came out as his opponent.

Henry told Xavier he liked him, which was rare because he doesn’t like a lot of people. He gave him the option to leave before he got hurt. Xavier told him that he hadn’t got on two planes and many buses to not wrestle. Henry clubbed him and the match began.

Henry got some good early offensive and then Woods took him down a couple of times before Henry took control and got the three count after a ‘Worlds strongest slam.’

Slater Gator vs Los Matedores was next. The result of the poll was that it would be a 6 man tag. Hornswoggle and El Torito began with some dance moves then straight into the action. El Torito is actually very good in the ring and Hornswoggle was decent tonight probably the best I have seen him. Slater was on good form interacting with the fans whilst trying to wrestle El Torito. Los Materdores were very good a lot of Hurracanranas in this match, but the crowd really wanted to see Titus O’Neill he was cheered as soon as he entered the ring.

Los Materdores won the match, which was a lot better than I expected.

Seth Rollins then appeared on the Titantron, I could barely hear him over the boos from the Cena fans who I seemed to be surrounded by. I got the impression he was building up the Main event.

Byron Sexton then introduced a Divas match.

Paige came out to a massive ovation, her family were in attendance so she took a little while to get to the ring, but the crowd loved her. Her tag team partner was introduced as Nikki Bella who gained no reaction.

Their opponents were AJ Lee and Brie, until Nikki told Brie as she was her assistant for this month it was now a handicap match.

Nikki refuse to tag Paige in on a few occasions much to the dislike of the crowd. Paige then refused a tag from her and AJ picked up the win with a roll up after Brie distracted Nikki with a yes chant.

After the match Nikki threw Brie down onto the mat and walked off.

Next up was Rusev (w/Lana) vs Big Show for the US Title.

Rusev was booed massively probably the biggest heat of the evening. Lana began with a promo telling the crowd that she hated Birmingham and that she was not impressed with our city. She then paid homage to Mother Russia and Vladimir Putin.

Big Show came out to good response. The match itself was very slow paced as expected.

Show picked up the win via DQ and was immediately attacked by Mark Henry. Big Show hit the Knockout punch and Henry was carried to the back (which seemed like forever, poor Mike Chioda)

There was a quick interval.

Then Jack Sawgger came out (w/Zeb Coulter) his opponent was Damien Mizdow the crowd loved it Mizdow was brilliant all evening and did not put on a bad match with Swagger, who picked up the win with the Ankle Lock.

After the match Zeb cut a promo about politics. It was very confusing to some in the crowd, but got cheered anyway. He then said he loved coming back to Alabama. Swagger told him he was in England which lead to Coulter telling every real English man to put their hand over there heart and shout ‘We the People’.

Sexton then introduced the team of Kofi Kingston and Big E who seemed to be loving the crowd response they got. Then Harper and Rowan came out to an even bigger ovation. Harper was excellent in this match as were all of them it was a decent match all round with Kofi and Big E showing some very good tag team moves they finished off with a Big Ending followed by Kofi jumping off the top rope and connecting with an elbow.

Sexton then Told us it was time for the main event of the evening.

Seth Rollins came out first to a mixed response there was a lot of people cheering him. He cut a promo on selling out to which a few fans chanted you brought in, but were overshadowed by ‘you sold out’ chants.

John Cena came out to his usual mixed response. Cena fans were delirious. (I haven’t been to a WWE event since Summerslam 92 when I was four so I had not seen this kind of response since the British Bulldog and Bret Hart)

The match was excellent. Rollins controlled a lot of it they brought their A game and they also brought tables! (a friend who’s attended many live events told me this was the first time he had seen a table used) It was Birmingham Street Fight, and a very good finish to a very good show.

Cena picked up the 3 count after an AA off the top rope threw the table.

I have been to many TNA events and even went to WCW when they came over and the main event was Ric Flair vs Curt Henning, but that was excellent every match was good and kept the sell out crowd entertained.

Thanks to Adie Pearson for sending in the following Zeb Colter promo details:

I was at the live WWE event in Birmingham and would like to let you know that there is a slight error in the results report.

Zeb Colter did not do a heel promo, Swagger simply corrected him when he accidentally said hello Birmingham, Alabama & he was comparing the US & UK politicians saying how they should be working for us, the people. Ended the segment saying how we were all real Englishman followed by getting us to rise, put our hand on our hearts & in a loud clear voice say ‘We, the people’.
