Destination America Airing TNA Marathon Leading to Impact Premiere, Did CM Punk Want to Fight Chael Sonnen in MMA Debut?

Punk Wanted to Fight Sonnen?

Chael SonnenDave Meltzer noted in the most recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter that CM Punk had approached former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen about a possible reality series that would lead to fight between the two. However, Sonnen failed two random drug tests back in June that led to his release from both UFC and Fox Sports. The Nevada State Athletic Commission also ruled that he would be banned from all martial arts competition globally for two years.

Aside from Sonnen being unable to fight, he considers himself retired from Mixed Martial Arts, and has publically stated that he does not want to fight anyone he considers to be a friend.

TNA Marathon on Destination America

This was mentioned in TNA’s press release this afternoon, but not really highlighted in our news articles. Destination America will be airing a 12-hour marathon of TNA content prior to the live debut of Impact Wrestling on January 7th. The announcement noted that it would contain clips from some of the best matches and moments in the promotion’s history.
