WWE Live Event Results

12/26/14

New York, New York at Madison Square Garden

 1. Dolph Ziggler over Luke Harper. Dolph worked up the crowd before the match. Seth Rollins and J&J Security attacked Ziggler after the match, after which Rollins cut a “holiday”-themed promo.

2. Ryback over Curtis Axel. More than a squash match. A lot of people in the upper section seemed confused as to why these two fought as they recently split up amicably as a tag team.

3. Sami Zayn over Adrian Neville to retain the NXT Championship. A few of the “ole” chants took place, but not much of a reaction beyond the Neville high spots. Great wrestling, although not arena-ready yet.

4. The Miz and Damien Mizdow over The Usos to retain the WWE Tag Team Championship. The Usos played up the crowd’s love of Mizdow both on and off the mic. Otherwise, pretty much the same match you have seen on TV.

5. Randy Orton over Kane. A Kane “backstage” promo aired earlier. A match we have seen plenty of times before. Orton, who I don’t believe has officially returned on TV yet, played babyface to a huge reaction.

6. Jack Swagger over Fandango. The crowd voted a dance-off and that’s what they got. Fandango attacked Swagger. Pre-match, Rosa Mendes did what she normally does.

7. Big Show over Erick Rowan. Big Show came out to interrupt a Santino Marella’s reading of a holiday-themed poem. Big Show won with a knockout punch. A lot of “Big Slow” heckling up north.

8. Alicia Fox and Emma over The Bella Twins. Paige served as the special referee. She slow-counted the Bella pin attempts and fast-counted the Fox/Emma pin attempts. After the match, Paige attacked a Bella to a cheered response.

9. John Cena over Seth Rollins. A predictable but surprisingly great match. J&J attacked throughout the match. Ultimately, Kane and Big Show individually joined in to attack Cena, and Orton and Ziggler appeared to save the day. The crowd went home happy.

WWE will be back at Madison Square Garden on February 27 with Hulk Hogan on the bill — his first WWE-endorsed (remember the announcement of his TNA signing?) appearance at the Garden in at least ten years.
