During an interview with Chuck Carroll of CBS Washington D.C., Daniel Bryan noted that he was not officially cleared to wrestle on the episode of Monday Night Raw where he announced his return.
He stated he was at the WWE Performance Center the week before, testing his body, but knew three to four weeks ahead of time that he would be back in the ring at some point. However, despite making the announcement that he would compete in the Royal Rumble on December 29, Bryan was not actually cleared to compete until January 14, the night before he wrestled Kane in the Thursday night return of WWE Smackdown.
