Update: Samoa Joe Confirms He is Not Leaving Pro Wrestling; Says He is “Combing Through Offers”

Samoa JoeSpeculation on Samoa Joe’s future have been running rampant since he announced his departure from TNA Wrestling earlier this week. While some have claimed Joe may be on the way out of the wrestling scene at 35-years-old to focus on his property rental business, he told the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the rumors were false.

“The reasons for my departure are varied and a laundry list. I wish no ill will towards TNA, just sometimes you need a change of scenery.” … “I’ll be spending the next few days combing through the offers put before me, which I’m both a bit surprised and thankful for.”

Where Samoa Joe goes following his ten years in TNA in anybody’s guess. When AJ Styles left at the end of 2013, he ended up signing a contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling while working limited dates for Ring of Honor and various other indie promotions around the world.

Joe is one of the original stars who helped create Ring of Honor, and a source within the company has told me the doors have always been open to guys like him, but right now they’re working on a very tight budget and there are a lot of financial concerns. I was told they would do everything in their power to give Joe dates if he were interested, but they’re already paying guys like Alberto El Patron and AJ Styles, who are not a part of the regular roster.

New Japan may be interested, especially with Styles currently holding the IWGP Heavyweight title. It’s been noted in the past, however, that there are a ton of American talents currently wrestling for the promotion, and it’s not likely they’re going out of their way to pick up more at the moment.
