NXT’s Buddy Murphy Talks Championship Win, Tagging With Wesley Blake, What Being The First Australian WWE Champion Means To Him

nxtNXT Tag Team Champion Buddy Murphy recently spoke with the Herald Sun of Australia, and discussed a number of topics, including his championship win with partner Wesley Blake, how the team came to fruition, what it means for him to be an Australian in WWE, and more. You can read a few excerpts below:

Buddy Murphy On Being The First Australian To Win A WWE Sanctioned Championship:

“It’s a massive honour to have made history, and it’s something that I’m going to hold very close to me for the rest of my life… But you never stop learning in this business, not at all, and I’ll still be in that ring and in the gym every day, keeping my creativity up.”

“I’ve never forgot my roots and where I came from, and I’d not change a thing about my journey. It gave me the foundation and prepared me, to some degree, to make it over here.”

How did the partnership with Blake begin?

“Wesley and I came in together on day one and, from day one, we’ve been joined at the hip. We hung around outside of work, we travelled together, we did everything together, so it was very natural for us to perform together in the ring. We decided to put the tag-team together and see what opportunities opened up for us and, at the end of the day, it all paid off with something we’ll never forget.”

How he would feel about defending the titles in his home country:

“It would be a dream, an absolute dream, to defend the tag-team championships over there [Australia] — never say never.”
