Portland, OR

March 15, 2015

(1) Erick Rowan def. Fandango. Surprisingly Rowan was pretty over with the crowd.

(2) Lucha Dragons def. Bo Dallas & Tyler Breeze. The Dragons weren’t really over until they started doing high-flying stuff, which got everyone into them. Dallas and Breeze play a great dysfunctional duo, as they’re basically opposite heel characters.

(3) R-Truth def. Luke Harper. Truth came out with the I.C. title, and Bad News Barrett stole it during the match.

(4) Natalya & Emma def. Sasha Banks & Summer Rae. I could have done with a lot more Sasha. Nattie was super over.

(5) Roman Reigns def. Big Show. Reigns wasn’t booed very much, but he also just wasn’t nearly as popular as they need him to be right. Come on, this is your Mania main eventer and he’s working pre-intermission matches with Big Show two weeks before the big title match? Show had a lot of heat. The match just wasn’t very interesting.

(6) The New Day (Big E & Xavier Woods) def. The Ascension. The former NXT champs cut their promo about being better than all the legendary tag teams; nobody cared.

(7) Bad News Barrett def. Dolph Ziggler & Dean Ambrose in a triple threat match for the I.C. title. This was really good, the best match of the show by far. Truth and Harper both got involved at the end. I’m not 100% sure, but I believe Truth left with the title again.

(8) Daniel Bryan def. Kane in a Portland Street Fight. PDX may not always care about Seattle (except when it’s NFL season and we have to steal their team) but Bryan was more over than anybody I’ve seen on the 4 WWE live events I’ve been to over the years. He won with the running knee strike into a chair.

Pretty fun live event with the second half much better than the first. Two things I can’t get over – 1) They clearly don’t perceive Reigns as a main event yet are running with him at WrestleMania, and 2) Bryan is way more over, yet he’s in the midcard title match at WrestleMania; they realize this, because he wasn’t even loosely affiliated with that program tonight. Instead he main evented. Go figure.
