ROH vs. New Japan: Global Wars

May 15, 2015

Toronto, ON

Mike Bennett and Matt Taven along with Bennett’s wife, former WWE Diva and Playboy cover girl Maria Kanellis, are known as The Kingdom. They are the current reigning IWGP Tag Team Champions, having defeating the Bullet Club for the belts in Osaka, Japan this April. They will step into the ring with the legendary Jushin Thunder Liger and his partner Matt Sydal, formerly known as a WWE Superstar Evan Bourne.

Chris Sabin, perhaps best known for his time in TNA as one half of the Motor City Machine Guns, faces off against 32-year-old Kushida. As well as being one of the most entertaining juniors in New Japan, Kushida has found a successful alliance with Sabin’s former tag partner Alex Shelley, forming the two-time IWGP Jr. Tag Team Championship winning Time Splitters.

OkadaIn what may be the biggest match in the 25-year-old’s impressive early career, Cedric Alexander faces off against a man already positioned to be the future face of New Japan at only 27-years-old, the two-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada.

Talk about strange bedfellows. 46-year-old New Japan booker Gedo teams with up-and-coming pro wrestling big man, Moose, the former NFL tackle who stands 6’5 at just under 300 pounds. Their opponents, “The Last Real Man” Silas Young and New Japan junior Takaaki Watanabe.

In a match almost certain to steal the show, Ring of Honor’s resident human highlight reel ACH battles one of Japan’s greatest and most popular stars, Shinsuke Nakamura.

A four-way tag team match rounds out the first half of the show. ROH Tag Team Champions Christopher Daniels and Kazarian (The Addiction) against Rocky Romero and Trent Baretta (RPG Vice), against BJ Whitmer and Adam Page (The Decade), against three-time ROH tag champs and former IWGP junior tag team champions Kyle O’Reilly and Bobby Fish (reDragon).

After a frustrating and controversial 2014, Michael Elgin has refocused his energy into doing what he does best – overpowering and destroying everyone he gets into the ring with. But can he do the same to one of the greatest stars in Japanese wrestling history, when he steps into the ring with seven-time IWGP Heavyweight Champion Hiroshi Tanahashi?

In the lone championship match on the “Global Wars” card, ROH Television Champion Jay Lethal defends his title – a belt he’s carried for 406 days – against one of New Japan’s best and brightest, Tetsuya Naito.

Jay BriscoeIt will be all out chaos in the main event. A ten-man tag team brawl will pit a team of Ring of Honor All Stars against the most dominant members of The Bullet Club. ROH World Champion Jay Briscoe leads the charge alongside brother Mark Briscoe, “Mr. ROH” Roderick Strong and the unstoppable WAR MACHINE, facing off against IWGP Heavyweight Champion AJ Styles, IWGP Jr. Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks, “Machine Gun” Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows.
