WWE NXT commentator and former wrestler Corey Graves recently spoke with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ahead of last week’s NXT Road Trip live event at Stage AE in Pittsburgh.

Graves, who is local to the area, talked about breaking into wrestling, his thoughts on transitioning to the booth, how WWE looked out for him, and more. You can read a few excerpts below:

How Graves broke into wrestling:

“I had a high school crisis and my dad started throwing options at me. Be a boxer. Be a [pro] wrestler. I grew up a fan my whole life. My dad was a fan and he transferred that to me.”

Corey Graves Talks NXT, how he’s transitioned to commentary:

“[WWE was] looking out for me because I wasn’t looking out for myself.”

“I had my reservations, but I’ve fallen in love with [commentating] pretty quickly. In a way, getting taken out of the ring has brought about so many opportunities that I thought I wouldn’t get to till the end of my career.”

Graves, who was unable to actually attend the show due to previously committing to a friend’s wedding, said he was heartbroken when they announced this show, but he knows Pittsburgh will see them again, and he will be there.
