Report by Mike Killam for Wrestlezone.com

Finn Balor is out to kick off the show, sporting a full suit and rocking the NXT Championship for the first time at Full Sail University. A “you deserve it” chant breaks out.  Balor talks about wrestling in Europe, in Mexico, spending eight years in Japan and making the hard decision to leave there and come to NXT. He says the minute he was handed the title knew it was worth it, and holds the belt in the air as the crowd thanks him. Balor puts over Kevin Owens for everything he’s done, including pinning John Cena (crowd is happy about that one), but says the one thing he didn’t do was pin him in Japan. The rematch at Takeover: Brooklyn will be made official in a contract signing later tonight.

We head backstage to Eva Marie who is all dressed up for her “NXT debut” tonight. Eva thanks William Regal for giving her the opportunity, and claims that she’s spent the last several months putting in her “blood, sweat and tears” training in the ring. Not a bad promo, except that she was obviously reading off a card.

EVA MARIE vs. KASSEY

Eva has new ring gear and a red robe. Kassey gets a few shots in out of the corner, but Eva takes her down with a suplex. She goes into a few rest holds as the commentators try way too hard to put her over. A few people break out an “Eva” chant, although it’s possible it could be ironic. Kassey with a bunch of impressive looking kicks. Eva throws her into the second rope, then hits Sliced Bread #2 for the victory.

Winner: Eva Marie

The million dollar question – did all that time training make Eva Marie better? I’m going to tentatively say “yes”, but only in the way that rolling a three in Monopoly is still technically moving forward… If you only judge her on being an NXT rookie, than she’s fine. She did some moves, none of them looked that bad, but she also has a lot to learn about the subtle art of selling, and looking confident and comfortable in the ring. One of those you can teach, the other you cannot.
