WWE Smackdown Results

August 6th 2015

Report by Ford Fischer for Wrestlezone.com

WWE Smackdown! began with a heartfelt tribute to “Rowdy” Roddy Piper, a true legend & pioneer that the business lost this past week.

Roman Reigns makes his way out to ringside via the crowd, as usual.  The crowd seems to be more excited than normal for Reigns as they flashback to Monday’s main event 6-man tag team match between the teams of Randy Orton, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns against Bray Wyatt, Luke Harper, and Sheamus.  The commentators then announce the main event of tonight’s Smackdown, which is Roman Reigns against Rusev!  This Rusev vs. Reigns match should be more interesting as Rusev is no longer unpinned and can take a loss, while Reigns would be crippled by a loss here.

Reigns addresses Bray Wyatt, mentioning that he was impressed by the ‘family reunion’ at the last Pay-Per-View, where the Wyatt Family came back together.  Roman then threatens that he can, “do family vs. family” and that it is his specialty.  Ironically, Reigns mentions his ‘brother’ Dean Ambrose rather than his extremely extensive family tree (which includes The Usos, Rikishi, and The Rock!)

Rusev interrupts Reigns with Lana Rae (as I call her) at his side.  Rusev catches flak from Roman about his girlfriend and how ‘creepy’ it is that he is trying to make his current girlfriend look as much like his former girlfriend (Lana).  A “USA” chant begins once Reigns embarrasses Rusev for his accent, which only enrages the Bulgarian Brute; who can only wave his flag with as much vigor as possible.

Charlotte vs. Namoi is advertised by the commentators before going backstage to the New Day getting pumped up for a 6-man Tag Team Match.

The New Day vs. The Prime Time Players & Mark Henry

An early 90’s split-screen promo by the Prime Time Players plays before the match begins, something I always felt necessary for matches like this.  Darren Young and Xavier Woods lock up first.  Fireman’s carry by Darren Young followed by some arm twisting trading.  Young gets backed into a corner and snap mare’ed out by Woods, but he is able to turn the tide and get a one count on a roll-up.  Atomic Drop by Darren Young followed by a nice kick to the head for a 2 count on Woods. Kofi Kingston is tagged in and promptly gets hit with a vicious Back Suplex on the edge of the apron by Darren Young.  All six men start yelling at each other with the referee holding them back as much as possible.

Commercial

We return to see Titus O’Neil chopping Kofi Kingston into oblivion before tagging in Mark Henry, who stomps on Kofi mercilessly.  Darren Young is tagged back in, showing good synergy by PTP/Henry.  Darren telegraphs a back drop, gets a kick in the face and tossed over the top rope.  By the time Darren rushes back in, Big E has been tagged in and Avalanches him to the canvas hard.  Logic says we want to see Big E and Mark Henry go one-on-one and see who comes out on top.  Extremely quick tags and stomps in the corner on Darren Young make for some serious damage to the Prime Time Player.  Xavier hits a Million Dollar Man-like jumping punch to the face of the fallen Young, a kick from Kofi on the outside after an Irish Whip which leads to a Superkick and a GIGANTIC splash from Big E after being tagged in himself.

Big E starts his clapping taunt while Young recovers on the mat.  Big E gutwrenches Darren Young, but Darren is able to wiggle out and land a harrowing Enziguri.  Darrent makes the hot tag to the fresh Titus O’Neil as he takes out all of the New Day quick, fast, and in a hurry.  Big Titus splash in the corner on Kofi and a cover for a 2-count.  Mark Henry gets the blind tag as Titus has Kofi up for a Fallaway Slam after a failed Flying Cross Body from the top rope, but he miraculously throws Kofi behind him and Mark Henry catches Kofi for a World’s Strongest Slam to earn the win for his team.

Winners – The Prime Time Players & Mark Henry

The commentators then promote Summerslam and the fact that it has a starting time similar to WrestleMania this year, 7pm – 11pm.  WWE’s Network is then promoted, especially the prank show entitled, “Swerved”.

Commercial

The New Day is caught backstage and asked how they feel losing to the WWE Tag Team Champions.  They are offended and make sure to point out that Mark Henry got the pinfall and that The Prime Time Players did not defeat them tonight.  They even go as far to start a new catchphrase/song apparently which goes something like, “EHHHH!  WE WANT SOME NEW DAY!” being repeated over and over.

WWE now profiles Charlotte, Ric Flair’s daughter with highlights from NXT and her recent RAW debut.  Charlotte then makes her way out to the ring with Becky Lynch to a nice reception.  Interesting as they announce her “from the Queen City”, which is Charlotte and also her name.  Good play on words.  Two thirds of the Sorority Sisters are out there waiting for Naomi to come down with her B.A.D. team member in her corner.

Namoi vs. Charlotte

We return from commercial to a flashback of Charlotte forcing current Diva’s Champion Nikki Bella tap out live on Monday Night RAW.  All three members of B.A.D. make their way to the ring as Naomi shows off her arrogance, agility, and LA Gear style boots!  The two ladies circle each other a bit before tying up.  Monkey Flip by Naomi, but they continue the collar-and-elbow tie-up.  Headlock by Namoi, pushed into a summersault pin attempt by Naomi and a roll-up by Charlotte, both earning a one count.  Naomi picks a bad time to pander to the crowd as Charlotte quickly recovers from a kick in the corner and catches Namoi off guard, knocking her down quickly and locking in the Figure 4 Leglock.  She struggles to bridge into the Figure 8, but that’s when Sasha Banks gets involved and causes the DQ.  However, referee Mike Chioda goes outside and informs Eden Stiles (the ring announcer) that he wants to restart the match as a tag match.

Winner – Charlotte via DQ

Commercial

Sasha Banks & Naomi vs. Charlotte & Becky Lynch

We return to Sasha Banks using technicalities to keep distance between herself and Charlotte until she could get the upper hand with a cheap shot from behind.  Charlotte regains control and tags in Becky Lynch as they hit Stereo Elbows and kip up almost simultaneously.  Sasha Banks is able to push Becky into her territory and tag out to Naomi.  Mrs. Uso and Becky trade some arm wrenches and waistlocks before Becky lands a few close 2-counts and a flattening dropkick.  Becky then hits her trademark 3x Legdrops followed up by Charlotte with an homage to her father as she NAILS a rolling knee drop across the cheek of Naomi.  Charlotte then uses her uber strong legs to wrap around Naomi’s head and slam  her amazingly to the mat several times.

The numbers game catches up to The Submission Sisters as Tamina hops up on the apron while Charlotte is distracted and Superkicks her right across the jaw and knocks her to the outside.  Sasha tries to take advantage and roll Charlotte in for the pinfall, but only earns a 2-count.  Naomi is tagged in and hits a few shots of her own for a 2-count on Charlotte as well.  Snapmare and a Back Slap leads to a Basement Clothesline for another close 2-count by Naomi on Charlotte.  Banks is tagged back in and we get to see the hottest NXT Women’s rivalry ever for the time being.

Charlotte is desperate to tag out, but “The Boss” tears her down to the mat with her hair.  Big time Backstabber by Sasha Banks into a modified Camel Clutch until Charlotte grabs the rope and Sasha is forced to break the hold.  Charlotte is able to buy some time and get the tag to Becky, who comes in like a house on fire.  That does not last long, however, as Tamina gets involved again and Becky takes some serious shots.  An Arm-Wrap Sleeper by Naomi starts to drain the life out of Becky.

Commercial

We return to a roll-up by Becky Lynch for a 2-count on Sasha Banks.  Becky has been taking a beating during the commercial break and could use a tag just as bad as Charlotte could several minutes earlier.  Naomi does a good job taunting her and reaching her arm out just short of Charlotte before dropping down into her Splits Splash for a close 2-count.  Sasha is tagged in and whips Becky into the corner followed up by her trademark Shotgun Knees to the sternum.

An Arm-Wrap Sleeper is locked in again by Sasha Banks, but his time Becky is able to use Banks’ momentum against her and roll out of it.  Charlotte gets tagged in finally and cleans house but again the numbers game catches up as Naomi and Banks switched out without tagging unbeknownst to the referee.  Small Packages are traded back and forth while confusion ensued, including several 2-counts but one 3-count where it was unclear who truly won it until Naomi’s music plays and referee Mike Chioda makes it official by raising her hand in victory.

Winners – Sasha Banks & Naomi

We now flashback to Seth Rollins bragging about breaking John Cena’s nose on RAW two weeks ago. He goes on and on, trying to mimic and make fun of John Cena’s open challenge with one of his own but with a few stipulations: that the challenger must be under six feet tall and under 200 pounds…which happens to fit the bill for Neville.  Neville did his best and put a valiant effort in, surprising the champion on several occasions, but was ultimately unsuccessful.  In the long run, that kind of exposure can only be good for wrestlers like Neville…regardless of win or loss.

Commercial

Stardust vs. Zack Ryder

A flashback is shown to RAW with Eden Stiles and Stardust (great couple!) as Stardust incoherently talks about Neville losing his WWE Title Match.  Stephen Amell, star of the TV Show Arrow has also promised an appearance next week on RAW.  Zack Ryder is on the other side of the ring from Stardust and locks up with him as the bell rings.  Ryder gets pushed into the ropes, but is able to get in control for a short time with some mounted punches in the corner.  Stardust fights back with a cheap knee to the gut and tosses Ryder into the turnbuckle face first before standing on his head in the corner as well.

Stardust then locks in a real tight Surfboard Stretch, but Long Island Iced-Z is smart enough to roll out of it and fall on Stardust for a 2-count.  Stardust continues the assault, almost Randy Orton-like for a bit as he stomps on several body parts of Ryder while he is on the canvas.  Ryder fights off an Irish Whip and is able to hit a strong Flapjack and boot Stardust in the face out of the corner and lead into a Missile Dropkick from the top rope.  This sets up the Broski Boot and earns Ryder a close 2-count.  Zack signals for his Rough Ryder Leg Lariat, but Stardust is able to clock him with a kick on a telegraphed backdrop attempt and hit his same ol’ finisher with a new name…the Queen’s Crossbow (formerly the Cross Rhodes).

Winner – Stardust

Stardust gets a microphone and proclaims that “The Emerald Archer” will go toe-to-toe with Stardust on the following RAW.  He says that the stars must be aligned and tells Amell to not let him down like Neville and to, “Be…My…Hero”.

One last flashback to RAW goes back about a month to the Undertaker and Brock Lesnar being in the same building and requiring nearly the entire roster to simply separate them.

An interview with Big Show is next as he proclaims that “The Big Guy” is gonna be knocked out by The Big Show at Summerslam.  Roman Reigns music hits and he makes his way out via the crowd again…but this time for the main event!  I personally feel this bout should be billed as a bigger deal seeing as how Roman has had the most success against Rusev without ever pinning him while Rusev is unpredictable as he is coming off of his first pinfall loss to Cesaro!

Commercial

A show entitled “A Table for Three” including Mean Gene Oakerland, “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff, and the final WWE appearance by “Rowdy” Roddy Piper is then promoted to go on the WWE Network directly after Smackdown! goes off the air.

Roman Reigns vs. Rusev

Reigns is one of the few not thrown-off or intimidated by Rusev’s opening fight stance as Rusev notices this instantly and they walk right up to each other and stare each other down.  Rusev lands the first punch, but Reigns is able to get him in a Headlock, touring him around the ring abit.  Rusev pushes off and hits a few shoulder blocks before Reigns roars back with one of his own, flooring Rusev!  Reigns brings Rusev to the mat with a Headlock Takeover, but Rusev is able to fight his way out and stomp Reigns into the corner.

Reigns creates a little space between the two  and drapes Rusev over the middle rope from the inside and begins unloading on his chest and face with kicks and punches respectively before Rusev is able to hit a crucial shot to the cut and a clothesline to knock Reigns off the apron to the floor.

Commercial

We return from commercial to see Rusev with a nerve hold in on Reigns’ trapezoid muscle.  Roman begins fighting out, but gets a nasty Swinging Back Suplex out of the corner from Rusev for a close 2-count.  Reigns sells it well, almost wheezing as he tries to get his barrings straight.  Rusev gets greedy and heads up top, only to miss the Flying Headbutt attempt to his very well prepared opponent, who moved out of the way in the nick of time.  The two Heavyweights begin trading hay-makers back and knock each other down due to such blunt force coming from both sides!  Reigns b-lines for the corner gets an elbow for his trouble, but powers through and clotheslines Rusev out of the Irish Whip attempt.  Reigns follows up with ten or so clotheslines in the corner on Rusev (eat your heart out Delirious!).

Roman then floors Rusev with a rough German Suplex, goes for another but gets caught by Rusev literall throwing his entire body weight in the air, taking Reigns down HARD to the mat.   Rusev stays on his opponent like he should and starts laying into him with knees.  However, Roman catches one knee attempt and is able to finagle Rusev up  for a Sitdown Powerbomb for a close 2-count.  Roman then backs up and signals for the Superman Punch, only to be caught off guard on the first attempt and hit the second attempt.

Both men crumble to the canvas as Summer Rae starts stirring and plotting on the outside, only to have Lana make her way down and slap the taste out of Summer’s mouth.  Meanwhile, both wrestlers have recovered in the ring and Rusev is incessantly screaming at Lana to come back out.  Rusev goes to hit his Bicycle kick on Reigns, who by-passes the extra angry Bulgarian and is able to bounce back off the ropes for a match-ending Spear in the middle of the ring!

Winner – Roman Reigns

Suddenly, Bray Wyatt appears on the tron post-match.  He says he tried to warn Roman.  He threatens his hands will be the ones to bring down the Roman Empire.  He also accepts the challenge of Roman for SummerSlam, ending the show by saying, “I welcome this war” and letting out a maniacal laugh.

As Porky Pig would say, “Bah-Dee, Bah-Dee, Bah-Dee…that’s all folks!”

Thank you all for joining in on the fun and don’t forget you can follow me @PWP_FordTheFish to see exactly who’s doing what when, where, why, and how.  Have a great rest of the night everyone!
