The New Day On Talk Is Jericho

WWE stable The New Day were recent guests on Chris Jericho’s Talk Is Jericho podcast, and the subject of their gimmick origins came up.

Xavier Woods said that the idea actually started as a heel character idea for himself, and it evolved from there. Kofi said after a few tweaks, Vince McMahon wanted them to be preachers and could be a babyface group talking about positivity. The group didn’t think it would work and pitched it to be a heel group, but they could work a babyface gimmick so over-the-top the fans would turn them heel.

The group said Vince never saw them as a heel group, and he actually thought the preacher idea was a great babyface idea. Woods even said Vince looked upset when talking about the ‘failed’ babyface run a few weeks ago with them.

The New Day also talks about the camaraderie of the group, the clapping, team name ideas and much more. Click here to listen to the full episode of Talk Is Jericho.
