Jushin Liger Talks NXT Takeover, How The Match Came About, Billy Gunn Weighs-In On Tough Enough (Video)

Jushin LigerLiger Talks NXT Takeover

Wrestling legend Jushin “Thunder” Liger took part in an interview with the New Japan Pro Wrestling website to promote this Saturday’s WWE NXT Takeover live special on the WWE Network.

Liger spoke (translated from Japanese from Enuhito.comabout how his relationship with NXT started, because he was interested in seeing “Devi-chan” (Prince Devitt/Finn Balor) in NXT in Philadelphia after working a Ring Of Honor show himself in Philadelphia the same week. He had someone contact Matt Bloom (Tensai) who got him a ticket for the NXT show. After a few weeks, Bloom and William Regal eventually contacted Liger and brought the match idea up.

Liger confirmed this is a one-time deal deal, and there was no “double contract” as he only agreed if NJPW was OK, and WWE respects that. He said the event is not special as one might think, because a lot of WWE employees like Regal and Bloom are his long-time friends and it’s familiar to him.

He did note he does not know much about Tyler Breeze, his Takeover opponent, but he knew he was trained by Lance Storm and would research him. Liger noted Breeze “must be really good” if he was learning under Lance and would learn basics of wrestling.
