Dalton Castle Talks Ring Of Honor, The Fans Embracing Him, How He Crafted His Unique Character

heath slaterRing Of Honor star Dalton Castle recently spoke with Scott Fishman of Channel Guide Magazine and talked about his introduction to wrestling, his character, and the Ring Of Honor fans embracing him.

Castle also discusses the ROH environment, which ROH star he considers a jerk, and more. You can read a few excerpts below:

Why wrestling was a natural next step for him:

“I wrestled over 10 years from middle school, peewees, high school and then throughout college. Then when college ended I had a degree in theater and communications. I still have a lot of athletic miles in my body. So it was next progression or step. I had friends who were already pro wrestlers who were encouraging. They thought I’d be good, and boy, were they right.”

Dalton Castle on how much of his character is the real him:

“It’s all me. I’m pretty much living the way I have been. I’ve always been loud and obnoxious in high school. I kind of confused humor and loudness, so if I thought if I were louder I would make people laugh, and I would get more attention. Now I do that in the wrestling world with my voice still and my actions, along with what I wear.

It’s all kind of drawing eyes toward me because that is what you want. I would say glam rock is a big influence of the look of everything. Anybody like a David Bowie or Freddie Mercury or the Darkness or Foxy Shazam, people who go out there and perform on stage is people I look up to.”

The working environment with ROH:

“Ring of Honor is a great environment to be in. The locker room is all pretty close and supportive of each other. It’s more of a team than just people coming to work. To have them kind of little hands-off, which in some cases can be nerve racking, but in others it’s fulfilling to be given the freedom to go out and make decisions on your own. They put this trust in you. It can be nervous to step out on that ledge and take a risk where you can just say, ‘They trust me. I’m going to do this because I think its right.’ It’s comforting in a weird, scary way.”

Which ROH star is he currently not a fan of?

“I can’t make this any more clearly. I’ve said such nice things about the people of Ring of Honor, but Silas Young is a flat-out jerk. There is no way else to put it… I would love nothing more to get my boys back. I have been listening to Hold On by Wilson Phillips. That goes back to the day I have lost the boys.”
