Ric Flair Talks Issues with 3 Hours of Raw, the Current State of WWE, Says WWE Did Not Want Him Referencing History on Raw, More

ric flairFollowing his appearance on WWE Raw this past Monday night, Ric Flair spoke candidly about the state of WWE during an interview with CBS Radio St. Louis. Below are quotes from Flair during the appearance, and you can listen to the entire show at this link:

On whether or not WWE should place more emphasis on in-ring wrestling given the current roster:

“I think [WWE] right now trying to figure out which way they want to go.

They have so much talent on the roster, but it’s three hours of TV. It’s difficult to create three hours of instant TV, no matter what. Even though the roster is healthy, I think Vince (McMahon) is trying to figure out the best way to go.

It’s all good. I walk into TV at Monday and it’s me, Steve (Austin), Hunter, Taker, Shawn Michaels, Pat Patterson, like the Hall of Fame sitting right there. The business has changed trying to get people to focus on anything anymore with all of the competition on TV. Forget about the NFL, they have ‘Dancing with the Stars,’ etc., so it’s become more difficult to deliver a product that everyone wants to see. It’s not from of a lack of effort.

The company is in a good place, the Network has been up and down on them, I just couldn’t be prouder of my daughter (Charlotte), and I love working there. Every time they give me a shot on TV – don’t give me too much verbiage (laughs) – I love being there.”

On WWE not wanting him to reference history during his promo on Raw last week:

“You know, that’s why I wanted to throw the Freebirds and Kerry (Von Erich) in my promo, even though they didn’t want me. It’s kind of like they don’t want to go back to historical times, and I get that, but I’m not going to neglect Michael Hayes, the Freebirds, and Von Erichs, and all the history. It’s just a different time and everyone has a different agenda and social media has control of the world, which is a shame.”
