It has been noted that Alberto Del Rio was re-signed to a WWE deal in part because of WWE’s desire to find the next “great Latino Superstar.” The Wrestling Observer Newsletter noted Kalisto was once thought to be a fit for that role, considering he is bilingual and a high-flyer.

It was thought that he could be the next Rey Mysterio at one point, but it became an afterthought after he was teamed with Sin Cara in NXT, who was seen as tainted after his WWE run, and it didn’t help Kalisto’s case.
