Mojo Rawley Talks the Origin of “Stay Hyped” Motto

The Washington Post recently profiled WWE NXT star Mojo Rawley, and in the piece Rawley talked the origin of his “stay hyped” motto. Rawly revealed he suffered a possible career-ending calf injury during his first week of training camp with the Arizona Cardinals and he also broke up with his girlfriend of 13 years. He rehabbed the injury, and when the NFL expressed interest in him, he opted to sign with WWE NXT instead.

“It made the least sense. It was the biggest risk,” Rawley said. “I didn’t know what I was getting myself into.”

Colt Cabana Reveals Pro Wrestling’s Secret History in New Podcast Mini-Series

‘Colt Cabana’s Pro Wrestling Fringe’ uncovers the sport’s bizarre, legendary, and completely true stories in a style that appeals to more than just hardcore fans.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 10, 2016 – Professional wrestling insider Colt Cabana reinvents wrestling media and exposes new audiences to the sport with the release of the three-part podcast mini-series “Colt Cabana’s Pro Wrestling Fringe.” In this fascinating new series Cabana investigates the sport’s secret history, uncovering the bizarre, legendary, and completely true wrestling stories traded by wrestlers, but rarely heard outside the privacy of the locker room. With “Pro Wrestling Fringe” Cabana has created a show that throws open the ring to the uninitiated, and the wrestling-curious, while still having plenty for the hardcore wrestling fan.

All three first season episodes are available for binge-listening now, exclusively at Howl.FM, the leading premium podcast platform. Use the offer code COLT at checkout to get a free one month trial of Howl Premium. A special preview of the first episode, about the superstar who was ‘supposed’ to be the next Hulk Hogan, is available free in the feed for Cabana’s ”Art of Wrestling” podcast, and at ColtCabana.com.

As a professional wrestler Cabana has been entertaining fans for over 17 years, in and out of the ring. In 2010 he launched the pioneering “Art of Wrestling” podcast establishing him as an innovator in wrestling media. He is known for covering the sport with trademark humor and an independent streak, while humanizing and celebrating the athletes behind the characters. His singular, yet accessible approach to the topic of professional wrestling brought Cabana to the attention of podcasting company Midroll Media, which in 2015 released his “Gathering of the Juggalos” audio documentary on Howl.

“I am grateful to Midroll Media and the Howl team for the recognition, and this opportunity to break out of the pro wrestling arena,” Cabana said. “There is so much to love about this sport to which I’ve dedicated my life, and so many amazing stories to tell. I want to share this wonder and joy with as many people I can.

“My goal is to reinvent how we consume professional wrestling. Podcasting is the perfect medium to do this. Releasing ‘Pro Wrestling Fringe’ on Howl will let me open up this world to new audiences who otherwise might never think they would enjoy a show about professional wrestling.”

On each episode of “Colt Cabana’s Pro Wrestling Fringe” Cabana is joined by wrestling dignitaries Dave Meltzer (Wrestling Observer Newsletter), David Bixenspan (Wrestling Observer Newsletter), and Rob Naylor (FSM Magazine). Together they discuss the finer points and broader meaning of each episode’s story.

The three season one episodes of “Colt Cabana’s Pro Wrestling Fringe” are:

Episode 1: A Giant Expectation – Pro wrestling is known for larger-than-life-figures, but the 7’7” Jorge “El Gigante” Gonzalez was a giant even among them. Colt and Rob Naylor tell the story of his brief and unusual career.

Episode 2: Black & White – In the 1950s, in racially segregated Memphis, Tennessee, Sputnik Monroe was a wrestling superstar. Colt and David Bixenspan discuss how Sputnik’s support of desegregation resonated throughout professional sports.

Episode 3: Hand Picked – Tom Magee, the Canadian champion powerlifter, looked like pro wrestling’s next big thing after a high-profile win against Bret Hart. However, as Colt and Dave Meltzer discover, looks can be deceiving.
