Forbes Analyzes the Pros and Cons of a Potential WWE Brand Split Returning

WZ Daily regular Alfred Konuwa has posted a new article over at Forbes.com looking at the pros and cons of a potential brand split returning to WWE. Below are two excerpts, and you can read the entire article at this link.

Pro: A Lighter Schedule

…a brand extension could be the cure to mounting injuries, a transitional roster and a sluggish product that is under constant scrutiny from the overreaction hub that is Twitter.

Injuries are at the forefront of what has been a difficult road to WrestleMania. Despite moving toward a new generation, WWE’s roster is still filled with aging veterans. Even talents who are marketed as stars of tomorrow, like Kevin Owens and Seth Rollins , are veterans of ten or more years who have dealt with their share of ailments.

With concussions and wrestler health a growing concern, a brand extension—one that comes with TV and pay-per-views exclusive to Raw and SmackDown—would also create a lighter workload.

Con: The B Show

By the final WWE Draft Lottery of 2011, Raw came away with former world champions John Cena, The Big Show, Rey Mysterio and Alberto Del Rio. SmackDown’s haul—which did include Randy Orton and Mark Henry—was marred by the much-maligned Sin Cara experiment.

With SmackDown now airing on the USA Network, WWE will have more incentive to level the playing field between its two TV brands.
