Cesaro became the new #1 contender to The Miz’s Intercontinental Championship moments ago on WWE RAW after he defeated Kevin Owens.
The final moments saw Cesaro connect with a springboard uppercut, followed by a Neutralizer for the win. The match came about after Owens petitioned Shane McMahon for a title rematch during the opening of tonight’s show, but McMahon instead said Owens would face Cesaro in the opening match for a possible title match.
The Cesaro / Owens match was just one announcement at the top of the show from McMahon; Shane also announced plans for a tag team tournament, a Sami Zayn versus AJ Styles match with WWE World Heavyweight Championship title shot implications and more.
