What Suspensions & Bray Wyatt Injury Really Means For WWE, Which NXT Star Could Benefit?

My Monday column for the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review looks at the recent suspensions and Bray Wyatt injury. Here’s an excerpt:

It’s not funny, but we’re running out of reactions to news of wrestlers not being available for WWE to use. So, all that’s left is to laugh.

In the past week, WWE lost Bray Wyatt to injury, while Adam Rose and Konnor of The Ascension each have been suspended 60 days for violating the company’s wellness policy.

Add this on to John Cena, Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, Luke Harper, Neville and Tyson Kidd being out with injuries.

The news of Rose and Konnor were met with a lot of sarcasm and rolling of the eyes from fans on social media since neither is in a prominent position on WWE television. True, neither guy is the focal point of a major story, but their temporary departures from the tour has impact that falls like dominos.

Konnor’s suspension also causes potential loss of work for his tag partner Viktor. Adam Rose is part of a four-man group, so him being gone doesn’t cause as much change to how the Social Outcasts are booked. But it’s still a loss of momentum in his personal career by not appearing on television for two months.

What fans also have to remember is that while guys like Konnor and Rose aren’t fighting for titles, WWE does so much touring with non-televised shows that guys on the bottom of the roster become more important for those shows. WWE often will run separate tours, having two shows in two locations on the same night. When this happens, the depth of the roster is key to filling out the card by having enough heels and faces to put on a show for the crowd.

Maybe Viktor can just join the Social Outcasts.
