6 Time WWE Hardcore Champion, WWE Tough Enough Trainer, WWE Tag Team Champion and current TNA Star Al Snow gives a very detailed description of how he came up with the infamous “Kennel from Hell” PPV match between him and “WWE Hall of Famer” The Big Boss Man.

Snow explains that every wrestling match has a gimmick, a focal point that you build the story of the match around, and that specific match gimmick was about dogs. Snow says Vince Russo wanted to get rid of The Head gimmick, but it was very over. Russo had seen recently seen the movie “Son of Sam”, in which the character heard voices from a Chihuahua, so that’s how the kennel match idea came about. Snow explained he wanted to make sure the animals they worked with in the match were highly trained.

Snow then said WWE did not heed his advice, and when he showed up in Charlotte, there were 7 or 8 dogs, and only one had some obedience training. Because the dogs were not trained, Snow had no idea what could be done with them, and they were the entire focal point of the match. Snow said the whole gimmick has now become a joke, and it’s become his responsibility, but in reality he had nothing to do with it and it was the company’s fault for not having trained animals at ringside. Snow did admit Vince McMahon later apologized for putting Snow and Big Boss Man in that situation.
