As noted, despite Kurt Angle recently claiming in an interview that he had spoken with WWE recently and his return to the company is “when and not if”, there are no plans to bring Angle back for the WWE brand split.

While it’s always possible WWE is pulling a swerve and does have plans to bring Angle back, The Wrestling Observer is reporting the company is very “squeamish” right now about anyone who might cause controversy in the company following the recent arrests of Adam Rose and Jerry Lawler. Kurt Angle’s past appears to be a reason why WWE officials are weary of bringing him back.

With regards to top names contacted for the brand split, it’s being noted that while WWE has contacted numerous former top stars, Jeff Hardy and Rey Mysterio have not been contacted about returns to the company.

WWE is aggressively pursuing indy talents right now, and specifically are targeting top Lucha Underground names who are contractually able to leave the company. WWE is reportedly seeking talents who they deem “coachable”, as that’s a big buzzword in the company right now. It was added that WWE will be very strict on performing background checks on all talents signed, to avoid any issues.
