Can New York State Prevent Brock Lesnar From Appearing at WWE SummerSlam If He’s Suspended By USADA?, More on Lesnar’s PPV Status

The question of whether or not Brock Lesnar will be able to wrestle at WWE SummerSlam has been a hot topic since Lesnar was flagged for a potential USADA anti-doping violation.

According to PWInsider.com, another sample must be collected by USADA, and until that happens, along with a proven test failure, nothing will happen to Lesnar in terms of suspensions and/or fines. That process might take long enough that SummerSlam comes and goes, and if that’s the case then Lesnar is at least in the clear when it comes to wrestling at SummerSlam. However, should the Nevada State Athletic Commission penalize Lesnar, here is what could happen to him with regards to WWE.

The New York State Athletic Commission can NOT suspend Lesnar as a pro wrestler. The Commission no longer requires licenses in the State of New York and only wrestling promoters are licensed after they pass a screening process and put up an appropriate bond through the Commission.

As long as Brock Lesnar passes whatever tests the New York State Athletic Commission requires the day of the event, then he will be able to perform at SummerSlam. A doctor from the Commission must be present at all pro wrestling events, and prior to the event wrestlers must submit a blood pressure to test to ensure they are fit to compete.

If, however, the USADA suspends Brock Lesnar, then the story would be different for him at SummerSlam.

If Lesnar is indeed suspended by USADA, then WWE might be compelled to suspend him as well as the issue will have become, and for the most part already is, a very public matter. It would likely look bad if WWE did not suspend Lesnar under its own Wellness Policy, but until USADA rules that Brock Lesnar did indeed fail a test, then WWE will likely do nothing and proceed with SummerSlam plans as normal.

You might recall back in 2007 WWE suspended 12 wrestlers after the company was contacted by prosecutors from the Albany County, New York District Attorney’s office and presented information that performers were revealed to be customers of Signature Pharmacy, a Florida-based internet drug retailer accused of running a nationwide illegal steroid ring. Due to the public nature of the illegal steroid ring, WWE was compelled to suspend the talents, even though no law required them to do so, in order to avoid any bad PR issues.
