The plaintiffs in the case, Everette Silas and Sherri Littleton, filed a $200 million suit claiming that the “Ballers” idea lifts elements from a project they had titled “Off Season” in 2007. The suit further alleges that HBO had access to copies of the “Off Season” screenplay.

According to Deadline.com, the suit has been thrown out as the judge ruled the “themes and concerns of the two concepts are widely different.” It was noted that the two projects “had general expressions that you might find in any project where football players were a primary element.”
