Details On CM Punk Acquiring Ohio Fighting License, Situation Compared To Brock Lesnar, EC3 / EVOLVE Update

CM Punk

The Ohio Athletic Commission’s Bernie Profato recently explained to MMA Fighting why CM Punk is eligible for a fighting license without any prior mixed martial arts fighting experience, saying the situation is similar to WWE / UFC star Brock Lesnar’s.

Profato cited Punk’s history as a professional wrestling and said: “CM Punk has a wrestling background similar to Brock Lesnar being permitted to fight in the past.”

He added that “there was also confidence in the matchmaker from the UFC and the past bouts he has submitted in previous UFC events in Ohio.”

Under normal requirements, a fighter seeking a license in Ohio would need “at least five bouts and a winning record in those contests”, but a fighter could seek to have this requirement waived by the Ohio Athletic Commission.
