NJPW Destruction in Tokyo Results (9/17): Kushida Defends Against Bushi, Shibata vs Bobby Fish, CHAOS vs Bullet Club, More

Los Ingobernables de Japon

(1) Roppongi Vice def. David Finlay & Harambe Henare. Trent pinned the Young Lion Henare with the Dudebuster.

(2) Manabu Nakanishi & Yuji Nagata def. Yoshitatsu & Captain New Japan. Nagata picked it up with an exploder suplex. This was your basic Tatsu trying to carry the team and Captain screwing it all up gimmick.

(3) Hirooki Goto, Tomohiro Ishii & Gedo def. Bullet Club (Chase Owens, Tama Tonga & Tanga Roa. Ishii planted Roa with a brainbuster.

(4) Kyle O’Reilly def. Juice Robinson. Looks like the former CJ Parker of NXT is now fully out of the Young Lions division after Lion’s Gate. KOR tapped him out with a leglock into an armbar. This guy is seriously one of, if not the best in-ring worker in the world right now.

(5) CHAOS (IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada, Yoshi-Hashi & Will Ospreay) def. Bullet Club (Kenny Omega, Yujiro Takahashi & Bad Luck Fale). Tacos got the win over Takahashi with the Karma finisher he debuted in the G1. Lots of cool stuff between Ospreay and Omega, and a continued build between Okada and Fale.

(6) Hiroshi Tanahashi, Michael Elgin & Ryusuke Taguchi def. Los Ingobernables de Japon (Tetsuya Naito, EVIL & Sanada). Nagata tapped to Sanada’s Skull End submission. A really good 6-man tag.

(7) NEVER OPENWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Katsuyori Shibata (c) def. Bobby Fish. It was well known that Shibata was injured going into this match, and probably shouldn’t have worked it at all. It was good, maybe even great, but when it’s two of the best workers of 2016 in a title match even great matches fall short of expectations. Shibata took some bumps he shouldn’t have with a bad neck. He won it with the sleeper into a PK after a very back-and-forth match with both guys trying to put each other away with everything in their kits.

(8) IWGP Jr. HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Bushi def. Kushida (c). There was so much interference and shenanigans this was more like a crazy WWE or TNA main event match. The unknown mystery Ingobernable was out there to help Bushi, there was a referee bump, all of LIJ got involved, Michael Elgin ran out to fight Naito, Kushida got misted… It was fun, and there were a few really great spots, but when you’re talking New Japan main events you expect a certain caliber of match and this just wasn’t it.  Especially given that a lot of people think Kushida has been slighted the last couple of months, not being featured well during the G1 tournament, and having the Super J Cup filled with shenanigans from the NOAH guys; maybe it was for the best to just get the title in LIJ and be done with it.
