Conor McGregor Granted a Boxing License, Fueling Speculation of a Fight Against Floyd Mayweather

According to MMAFighting.com, one day after he was stripped of his UFC Featherweight title, the California State Athletic Commission granted UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor a boxing license in California. FOX Sports reports that Conor will also be applying for a boxing license in other states such as New York, Nevada and Texas.

CSAC executive officer Andy Foster issued the following statement:

“[McGregor] got a license today and a federal ID. He’s a California boxer now. … He’s qualified [as a boxer]. I’d love to see him fight in California. It just needs to be the right opponent. Certainly a high-level opponent. We’re happy to license him. We’re happy he’s a California fighter.”

While the granting of the license could fuel speculation on a superfight between the UFC Champion and boxing Champion Floyd Mayweather, McGregor has yet to respond publicly to UFC’s decision to strip him of the Featherweight title and it’s being speculated the boxing license could be McGregor’s way of grandstanding.

MMAFigting added there are no real plans in place for McGregor and Mayweather to fight, but FloCombat reports that talks between the two Champions’ camps have been ongoing for almost a full year. They described the current state of the talks as optimistic. Conor has offered to box Mayweather in the past with a price tag of $100 million.

Nick was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, and lived there until the age of 18, when he decided to pack his flack jacket and move to New York City.

Nick is a member of two Off-Broadway theatre companies, Another Urban Riff, and the Drama Desk Award winning Godlight Theatre Company. Nick has appeared in over a dozen Off-Broadway plays since he moved to New York City, and has shot several short and feature length films. In 2010, he completed principle photography on a film titled "How to Score Your Life," which also features TNA Knockout ODB.

Inspiration in his life has come from many people including his family, Woody Allen, Steven Spielberg, Jack Nicholson, The Beatles, and of course, Lassie.
