This year we are very excited to announce some details that will make the new and improved Wrestlezone Year-End Awards more selective, and much more legitimate than ever before.

We have chosen nine categories this year, and cultivated a selection of options for each category based on suggestions from our readers and staff. We will be posting polls, like the one(s) below, for our readers to vote on. The top five selections (or top three, if there are five or fewer options) that receive the most votes will then be collected and sent out to our hand-picked panel of experts, including wrestling journalists, personalities in the business, and even a few wrestlers themselves. Once our panel has had time to cast their votes and send in their thoughts on this year in wrestling, we will collect the responses and begin distributing our 2016 Wrestlezone Year-End Awards at the end of the year.

Note: Our staff does reserve the right to add an option to the lists sent out to our panel , if we feel it is a vital option that goes underrepresented due to region bias, lack of exposure, etc. We will NOT be removing any of your picks, however.

Featured below are more than 25 options for Match of the Year 2016. In terms of in-ring quality this has been an absolutely incredible year for every major wrestling promotion, and it was a challenge to even narrow the selections down this far. While we obviously couldn’t include every great match that was worked this year, and we weeded out some excellent duplicate matches as there were a lot of exceptional multi-match series in 2016, our options run the full range of promotions including WWE, NXT, Ring of Honor, PWG, New Japan, Lucha Underground and beyond.

We encourage our readers to check out any of the matches listed in the poll that they may not have seen. Almost all of the matches are available via official streaming services such as the WWE Network, New Japan World, Floslam and Demand Progress, and many are available unofficially on YouTube as well.
