RS: I was with Sgt. Slaughter and what a treat that was. What we were doing was the USO had setup several sites in and around Washington, DC to go see and visit. Every site had several troops there and wrestling fans there. We were signing autographs and taking pictures with the troops. We went to a mess hall and did the same thing there. We went to where they had these stables of white and black horses. About seventy of them. The services that these horses provided was for the fallen soldiers that were brought to Arlington by the buggy and the horses. Very similar carriage to the best of my memory, as a way to describe it, as the way everyone saw John F. Kennedy was carried. It is for dignitaries or generals. They do like 3-4 a day in to Arlington. These enlisted men their sole duty is to maintain and take care of them. It was something that they volunteered for. They take care of seventy white and black stallions. All the brass and the carriages. All of that. It is like non-stop, 300+ days, 3-4 a day and to do it with such pride and dignity. Sarge and I were just amazed by it. Of course they were wrestling fans. They knew who we were. The GIs especially knew Sgt. Slaughter. He walked in to the room and they were like, “Oh my God! It’s Sgt. Slaughter!” He’d go, “At ease maggots!” (laughs)
