Total Wrestling Magazine has an interview with former WWE Superstar Cody Rhodes as he talks leaving WWE on his own accord, on WWE searching for independent talent and WWE locker room thoughts on the independent wrestling scene. Below are some interview highlights:

On leaving WWE on his own accord:

I’ve done everything and more I was hoping to do, a lot of these independent groups come across like independents, they come across as brands. It’s cool that I’ve done the more smaller independent shows, but also the larger companies too, last year I wrestled at WrestleMania, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla’s Battle of Los Angeles, TNA’s Bound For Glory, Ring of Honor’s Final Battle and then obviously I did New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom, so the statistic is rather staggering for me, to have a period of these events coming so fast in a featured way, it ways heavily on my mind because you want each to be good.

On WWE searching for independent talent:

There’s a lot more hope that it’s not just going to be gimmick tables and small events. But, it also gives you hope that on a small event you can give everything you can. Now, they’re so hand in hand, NXT being the biggest indy there, that what it is. It’s the way you work up and I think that’s the way it should be. WWE can still recruit from other sports or models, that can still be acceptable, they go to the Performance Center, they train, they work in developmental. NXT is the place where you get shined up right before Raw and Smackdown. To be honest, some guys may not even want to leave there because they’re doing so well.

On WWE locker room thoughts on the independent wrestling scene:

I think now there are some who are a little naive to it, those from the early 2000’s who believe that the company is the be all and end all. I love Miz to death but I’m pretty sure he’d have no idea what the shows I’m at are all about. But, I can tell you he’d probably turn out a great performance. He’s one of the ones who it might be a culture shock for, the most part because NXT is the biggest indy of them all. For the most part though a lot of people haven’t come from there. But, obviously you have your Sami Zayn’s Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose who have come from the indy’s, but those that haven’t are getting a lot smarter about how they can check it out, who they can follow on social media. The Young Bucks are very responsible too because they don’t need WWE, it’s cool to see people aware of them, to have strong opinions on them good or bad.
