News on WWE Talking Smack Viewership vs 205 Live and the Future of the Post-PPV Shows

Last week WWE made the decision no longer to air WWE Talking Smack on Tuesday nights after WWE 205 Live, and the show will now air on a monthly basis following Smackdown brand PPV events on the WWE Network.

WWE issued a statement noting that while Talking Smack will no longer air on a weekly basis, WWE 205 Live will still air in its regular time slot of 10pm EST on Tuesday nights immediately following Smackdown Live.

Sports Illustrated then reported over the weekend that the decision to cancel Talking Smack as a weekly series was made by Vince McMahon himself, as he was unhappy with the unscripted nature of the show and felt “it did not serve the company’s best interests.” Sports Illustrated added that Vince McMahon plans eventually to drop the post-PPV Talking Smack shows.

For what it’s worth, WWE Talking Smack last week came in at #18 of the most watched shows on the WWE Network, and 205 Live did not make the top 20 shows. Furthermore, Talking Smack often times beat 205 Live in terms of ranking of WWE Network shows. The post-Money in the Bank edition of Talking Smack, for example, was the fourth most watched show on the WWE Network that week.
