As we approach the halfway point of the G1, which is shaping up to be among the all-time best tournaments in wresting history, the undefeated streak of Kazuchika Okada continues. The IWGP Heavyweight Champion moves on to eight points as Kenny Omega suffers his first loss in an incredible rematch with Michael Elgin, taking the lead in the B BLOCK.

There have been a handful of instances where a competitor advanced to the G1 Finals with an undefeated record under round robin rules, but never before with this many competitors in each block. Okada has a chance to create history yet again. Of his remaining opponents, victories over EVIL, Tama Tonga and Juice Robinson are plausible, and of course he’s already defeated Minoru Suzuki this year. It will be the final night match against Kenny Omega that looks to be his greatest challenge.

Of course with 10 points still left on the board for both blocks the field is still very much open. This is where things get very interesting. Considering the booking around Okada this year anyone currently at 4 points would essentially have to win every single match they have to left to remain competitive, with the bottom three in the B BLOCK very close to being statistically eliminated. The next B BLOCK show is Sunday morning with several key matches in Yano/EVIL, Minoru/Tama and Elgin/Sanada which should really start to separate the pack. Juice Robinson and Satoshi Kojima have the unlikely draw of facing Okada and Omega, respectively.
