August 27th 2012

Michael Cole starts talking about tonight's events when Jerry Lawler takes off his headset and enters the ring. He says RAW doesn't usually start like this, but he needs to get something off of his chest and he addresses CM Punk and what happened on RAW 1000 and last week. King says Punk took his comments out of context, and he apologized last week, but he got kicked in the back of the head. King says he apologized to Punk last week, but this week he wants Punk to apologize to him. Punk meets him in the ring and asks why the WWE Champion should apologize to him, because all he did was justifiably beat up the Rock. He says his actions were justified and King was the one who turned his back on the fans, and King is trying to make him out to be a bad guy.

Punk says he's not a bad guy, but King's lack of respect is why he kicked him in the head, but it was provoked because King pushed him on his way out. He says he can be a man and apologize, then he says he's sorry that it's so easy to get into the WWE Hall of Fame by beating no names from Memphis. Punk says King's WWE career is a joke and he couldn't win the WWE Championship, let alone beat Michael Cole at Wrestlemania. Punk says he's sorry for raising his voice, and he's sorry about the man King has become, then he backs up and asks if King is upset.

Punk asks if King wants to fight him, then he says King is a commentator and he's the best in the world, and everyone paid to King get embarrassed by him. King says he wanted an apology instead of a fight, but Punk eggs him on and says he knows King wants to see what would happen and he is up for it. Punk says King will leave embarrassed because he'll get the crap kicked out of him, or it'll be because he refused to fight, then Punk tells him to think about it. Punk leaves and yells for respect, then King tells him he will think about it before resuming his duties at the commentary table.

Jack Swagger vs Ryback

Swagger knees Ryback in the stomach and tries to take him down, but Ryback whips him into the ropes and knocks him down with a kick to the head. Swagger goes for a Swagger Bomb but Ryback counters, then Swagger goes for an ankle lock but Ryback kicks him away and backdrops him. Ryback punches him in the head a few times, then he calls for the finish and hits a clothesline and Shell Shocked for the win.

Natalya vs Layla

Vickie Guerrero comes out before the match begins, and she says this match had better end quickly because she has an important announcement to make. The bell rings and Natalya applies a front facelock, then Layla tries a reversal but Natalya kicks her in the stomach and whips her into the ropes. Layla counters with a pin attempt, then she hits a springboard crossbody for another near fall and pulls Natalya away from the ropes. Layla taunts her and kicks her in the face, then Natalya rolls outside and says that wasn't funny, and Layla goes for a baseball slide kick. Natalya avoids it and Layla gets caught in the ring apron, then Natalya kicks her in the back before sending her back in the ring. Natalya elbows her in the head and sets up for a Sharpshooter, but Layla kicks her back and Natalya gets tangled in the ropes. She gets back in the ring and sets up a suplex, but Layla counters with a rollup attempt then kicks her in the back of the head and picks up the win.

Winner - Layla

Vickie says Layla is done so she should leave, then Vickie talks about AJ making the unfair match between Dolph Ziggler and Chris Jericho last week. She says she was fine with Jericho's contract being up for grabs, but it was unfair to Dolph, and she's not afraid to challenge the authority around here. Vickie says the board of directors should take action because they need to set things right, and AJ abuses her power because she's a crazy, deranged child. AJ comes out and smiles before smacking her in the face, then they go to the ground and AJ hits her a few more times before Vickie takes off and runs backstage.

Daniel Bryan is shown at his anger managment group, and he says he doesn't have any issues and he couldn't be any calmer. The doctor says they are waiting for another person but they can continue, but Bryan flips out when a boy in a goat mask walks in. Bryan yells at him and asks him who put him up to it, then he yells at the boy a bit more until the doctor pulls off the mask. The boy is crying and the doctor says it's his son, and he's playing a goat in a school play. Bryan backs off and the doctor tells his son that Bryan is sick and needs help, then another patient tries to comfort Bryan and he tells him to stop touching him.

Jerry Lawler stands up on the commentary table and says he wants to go over what CM Punk said to him earlier, and he fought alot of legends in Memphis, not no names. He says he fought Andy Kaufman and he respected him, and he might not have been WWE Champion, but he is a Hall of Famer. King says that is no easy task, and you don't become a Hall of Famer unless you stand up to people and take on guys in their prime. King says he doesn't think he is the best, but he doesn't think Punk is either, and he will fight Punk tonight, then he heads backstage to get ready.

We rejoin Daniel Bryan's therapy session and "Harold" is talking about hating his work week, then the doctor asks Bryan what he thinks about this. Bryan says his boss is his ex-fiancee, and she not only left him at the altar, but she put him in a match with a deranged psycho. He says he doesn't belong there and he's not crazy, but the doctor stops him and says their last patient has just arrived. Kane opens the door and Bryan screams NO!, then he says this is what he has to deal with as Kane sits down next to him.

Heath Slater vs Santino Marella

Santino takes Slater down with a waistlock, then he showboats a bit and Slater gets pissed off and shows him how to play an air guitar. Santino mocks him and does it back, but Slater knees him in the stomach and punches him on the ground before wailin' on his air guitar. Slater stomps him near the apron and slingshots him into the bottom rope, then he goes up top but Santino rolls away so he goes to the opposite corner. Kane says he's the "Devil's favorite demon", then Bryan says this is a bad idea but Kane talks about his disturbing childhood and being locked in a basement. He mentions his girlfriend Katie and how he set a few people on fire, then he says he has an unhealthy obsession with Pete Rose. Kane shares a few more 'highlights' of his career, then the doctor says that's enough for this week and they will make an anger collage for next week. Bryan says this is a joke and it's not art class, then another patient congratulates Kane on therapy and Kane grabs his throat and says no problem.

R-Truth (w/ Kofi Kingston) vs Daniel Bryan

Truth asks for a fist bump and Bryan agrees, then the fans chant "Goat Face" and Truth asks for another fist bump. He says he started with the goals of creating great memories in the ring, and to retire from the ring before wrestling retires him. HHH says everyone comes to a crossroad in their career, and he didn't want to hang on too long and be so crippled that he can't hold his kids. HHH says for the first time ever he is at that crossroad, and Brock Lesnar made him ask if he's done, but he wants to be the Game and kick some ass. He says he wants to do that, but he doesn't know if he can be at that level anymore and Brock forced him to look inside and ask if he is done.

HHH says the one thing he can do is thank the fans for everything, and he doesn't care if you love them or hate them, but all of the wrestlers put it all on the line. King says he knows Cena has his back and it's about respect, but he needs Cena to stay out of it, because Punk will throw it in his face. He tells Cena he doesn't want to win with help, and he's not fighting for Cena or anyone else, because he wants this for himself. Cena nods and tells him good luck, then he pats him on the shoulder and leaves King to get ready for the match.

(Note: Cole commentated the entire match standing up, afraid to be any closer next to Kane. He tried to get Kane to talk and asked about therapy, and the whole thing was pretty funny. It didn't take away from the match; I like Cole when he's not overbearing.)

Cena tells the crew to raise the cage, then Punk hits King a few more times and rolls out of the ring as the cage starts going up.
