On Friday night, AEW President Tony Khan is finally sending for Hook, as Taz’s son is set to make his in-ring debut on AEW Rampage. Fans have rallied around the 22-yar old prospect, and in doing so, they’ve created a lot of buzz for his first match. (The bout was taped on Wednesday night, but it will air for the first time on Friday.) As a result, it isn’t all that surprising to see AEW’s going all out with it. This approach is evident in the fact that Khan has licensed Action Bronson’s song, “The Chairmain’s Intent”, so Hook can use it for his theme song.
In an interview with Pitchfork, Khan, Hook and Bronson shared their thoughts on this collaboration. Hook explained that he’s a long-time fan of Bronson, and the connection with his New York roots make it a fitting choice for his entrance.
“I’ve been an Action Bronson fan since I was in sixth grade,” said Hook. “I would hear him shout out all these old school wrestlers, old school strong man s—, and all these old athletes. With that and the New York vibe, I had a feeling that my dad would f— with it as well. When I showed him, he loved it.”
AEW is fairly selective with the songs it licenses, so it’s significant that Hook gets to use one in his debut. With this in mind, Khan called the decision to license “The Chairman’s Intent” as “an investment in the presentation of a very important young wrestler.” Khan then acknowledged the fans’ practically rabid response to Hook heading into his debut.
“People really like Hook! He’s gotten great responses without really doing much,” Khan said. “There’s lots of cool memes where fans can’t wait to see Taz unleash his son Hook.”
Looking back on his first match, Hook had nothing but good things to say about it, and he was clearly amped up about the ability to use Bronson’s song in New York.
“It was hard as f—, honestly,” Hook said. “It was tough, man. I was excited. I felt like I could run through a brick wall before going out there. Having Action Bronson for my debut in New York? It was surreal.”
