Real Reason Adam Copeland Is Leaving AEW TV Revealed

Adam Copeland is taking some time off from AEW, but it’s not for the reason that many have been speculating about.

This week’s episode of Dynamite saw Adam Copeland tell Christian Cage that he needs to go home and take care of his family. His response was a reaction to his wife, Beth Phoenix, getting attacked by FTR at AEW All Out last weekend.

“Man, I can’t… I can’t keep doing this. It’s affecting my family, and it’s not the first time. It’s happened before and I can’t keep doing this to them. I can’t. It’s my family. So I have to go, man. And I don’t know if I’m going to come back. I don’t know.”

Christian said he didn’t have a family, but Copeland should go take care of his. Copeland turned and said Christian did have one, and they embraced before he left.

Copeland’s initial comments led to speculation that he will return to WWE for a match against John Cena on his retirement tour.

However, there are a couple of issues with that idea, namely that Copeland’s AEW contract is believed to run until sometime in 2026. In addition, a new report from PWInsider.com is reporting that Copeland is leaving to film season three of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Copeland plays Ares on the Disney+ series, the same role he has had for the first two seasons of the series. Season three of Percy Jackson started production in August.

So, unless Tony Khan came to some agreement to allow Copeland to cameo in WWE, fans shouldn’t expect to see him across the ring from John Cena before the retirement tour wraps.
