A WWE NXT star nearly missed out on being signed until Shawn Michaels went to bat for him.
Speaking on the No-Contest Wrestling Podcast, Je’Von Evans revealed that he wouldn’t have been selected during his WWE tryout if it weren’t for the “Heartbreak Kid” convincing the bosses.
“I feel like he was the person who really looked out for me because during my tryout. Apparently, I wasn’t gonna get signed, right? But Shawn saw something in me,” Evans said.
Explaining why he thought he wouldn’t make it through the tryout, Je’Von shared that he was considered “too young” and “too small” for WWE to recruit at the time.
“I was too young, I was smaller at the time. So there were a lot of people who wanted me to get older and bigger,” he said. “Shawn was like, ‘No, just trust me.’ Everybody trusted him, and now he’s one of my go-to people, you know what I mean? You gotta thank Shawn for sure.” [H/T Fightful]
Je’Von will represent Team NXT at Showdown against TNA
Last week, Je’Von Evans formed a brief alliance with TNA’s Leon Slater when they teamed up to take on The Culling’s Shawn Spears and Niko Vance in tag team action. While Evans and Slater picked up the win, their partnership quickly fell apart.
Both men are now set to face each other in a huge four-on-four Survivor Series-style tag team match at WWE NXT vs. TNA Showdown tonight on The CW.
“The Young OG” will join forces with NXT Champion Ricky Saints, TNA World Champion Trick Williams, and Myles Borne to battle TNA’s Mike Santana, Moose, International Champion Frankie Kazarian, and X Division Champion Leon Slater.
