AEW Dynamite Results

Tony Schiavone welcomes us to the upcoming contract signing between MJF and Kenny Omega for the AEW World Championship on AEW Dynamite. A pyro goes off before the scheduled time, prompting an apology from Schiavone. As he continues the introduction, more pyros go off, appearing to be a production glitch before we hear familiar music.

Chris Jericho is home

Le Champion makes his return to the company, and the crowd sings along to “Judas.” As Jericho stands in the ring, Schiavone is nowhere to be seen. Jericho hadn’t been seen since he ended his Ring of Honor World Championship program with Bandido. At the very least, his return in Winnipeg puts an end to rumors that he was WWE-bound.

Chris Jericho soaks in the crowd reaction as his theme song plays. The crowd responds with “Welcome back” chants. Jericho hypes them up before saying, “Winnipeg. AEW. I’m home.”

Excalibur notes that it was an unexpected start to AEW Dynamite as Y2J exits the ring to interact with fans at ringside.

Backstage Brawl

We see Will Ospreay caught in a brawl with Jon Moxley. Wheeler Yuta intercepts, but Ospreay responds with a series of forearm strikes.

Excalibur says Ospreay will challenge Jon Moxley for the AEW Continental Championship at Dynasty before discussing Ospreay’s match against PAC set for Dynamite later tonight.

AEW Dynasty World Title Match Contract Signing

MJF, the AEW World Champion, arrives for his scheduled contract signing. MJF is in his official attire, complete with the scarf. The challenger, Kenny Omega, appears next. Omega is ring-ready for his trios match later tonight.

MJF and Omega put pen to paper. Friedman tries to speak, but Omega tells him to “shut up” because they’re in Winnipeg. Kenny claims Max was rehearsing his lines backstage and even jokes about Friedman’s hair.

Omega hypes up the world title match at AEW Dynasty. He references his Diverticulitis issues, noting that his family and friends had his back. He promises to beat MJF for the title next Sunday.

MJF offers a sarcastic response to Omega’s promo. He implies Kota Ibushi is injury-prone before pointing out Kenny Omega’s own history with injuries.

Friedman asks the crowd why Omega is suddenly in the title picture. He claims Omega’s visit to the doctor brought some rough news, saying Omega’s doctors told him his intestines could rupture at any time, referencing the severity of his Diverticulitis.

MJF then calls Omega a false idol who would be better off dead, prompting Kenny to flip the table.

Mike Bailey interrupts. He says Friedman is trying to goad Omega into attacking him so the title match at Dynasty gets called off. Speedball then challenges MJF to a match.

Omega takes the mic and says he’s missing 24 inches of his intestine, but he would prefer that over losing his balls, calling out Friedman for ducking Bailey’s challenge.

MJF reluctantly accepts, and the match is announced as the main event of AEW Dynamite tonight in Winnipeg.

Brody King, ‘Jungle’ Jack Perry & Kenny Omega vs. The Demand

  • The finish of the match saw Kenny Omega plant Ricochet with a One Winged Angel for the win.

Winners: Brody King, Jack Perry & Kenny Omega

Grade: A-

AEW trios action never disappoints. This was a fun opening match. The Demand worked like a well-oiled machine, but the trio of King, Perry, and Omega proved to be the better team tonight on AEW Dynamite.

Seeing Brody King hit a suicide dive after roasting Peter Rosenberg over his anti-suicide dive comments was hilarious.

Willow Nightingale Open Challenge Announcement

Willow Nightingale is backstage. She says she wants to defend her TBS Championship against the best. We’ll find out who answers her open challenge when she brings it to AEW Collision this Thursday on TNT.

Watch Out, Renee!

Renee Paquette says Cope and Christian Cage are on their way to the building. C&C arrive, and Renee tries to get their thoughts. Cope says Renee is just doing her job, but they’re here to take out FTR. He adds that anyone who gets in their way will get the chairs.

Christian attempts to swing a chair at Renee, but Cope stops him in his tracks. Cope then asks Christian why he would target Renee as they head toward FTR’s locker room.

After the commercial break, Cope and Christian find FTR’s locker room, but Trent Beretta and Rocky Romero are inside. Cope and Christian take them out with chair shots to the back before Cope says that will send a message to Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler.

Brainbuster on the Floor

Will Ospreay is making his way to the ring when he gets ambushed by PAC. The Bastard plants Ospreay with a brainbuster on the outside. Ospreay clutches his neck in pain as PAC enters the ring.

An AEW ringside doctor arrives to check on Ospreay. Somehow, Ospreay wills himself back up and, despite warnings from the medical staff, enters the ring as the referee calls for the opening bell.

Will Ospreay vs. PAC

  • The finish of the match saw Will Ospreay reverse PAC’s Brutalizer submission hold into a roll-up for the win.

Winner: Will Ospreay

After the match, PAC targets Ospreay’s neck with additional shots. Ospreay retaliates with a Hidden Blade out of nowhere. Wheeler Yuta and Daniel Garcia then gang up on Ospreay.

Claudio Castagnoli brings a chair and places Ospreay’s neck on it. Jon Moxley finally appears and teases taking Ospreay out by stomping on his neck. Mox grabs the mic and blames Ospreay for his misery. He asks a fallen Ospreay to use his head before he loses it.

The Death Riders then leave the ring as medical staff tend to Ospreay.

Grade: A-

This was different from previous Will Ospreay vs. PAC encounters we’ve seen over the years. PAC’s brainbuster early on slowed Ospreay’s momentum, but he managed to retaliate with flashy offense. The roll-up victory was a solid way to end the match, as it protected both competitors.

It will be interesting to see if Ospreay can pull off a win against Mox at AEW Dynasty next Sunday.

Mina Shirakawa & The Brawling Birds vs. Triangle of Madness

  • The finish of the match saw Jamie Hayter plant Julia Hart with a Hayterade lariat for the win.

Winners: Mina Shirakawa & The Brawling

Grade: B+

Some solid women’s trios action. The Brawling Birds continue their dominance in the tag division. Thekla was protected, as she did not take the pin. Let’s see what’s next in store for the AEW Women’s World Champion.

Darby Allin Hijacks AEW Dynamite

Darby Allin surfaces ahead of the AEW Dynamite main event between MJF and Mike Bailey.

Darby says he hasn’t met God yet, so that leaves him to face “The Devil,” referencing Friedman. He hopes Kenny Omega beats MJF for the title. In fact, he doesn’t care who beats Friedman for the world title as long as they put an end to his egotistical run.

Don Callis interrupts and says MJF gave them a lot of money to take out Darby Allin. He reveals Friedman will give Darby a title shot if he beats a handpicked member of the Don Callis Family. The person is Andrade El Idolo, who is as surprised at the announcement as the crowd.

As Callis explains the situation to Andrade, the rest of the Family tries to jump Darby in the ring. Lance Archer gets hit with the skateboard before Jack Perry and Brody King arrive to make the save.

Kenny Omega then appears, coming face-to-face with Darby Allin as we get closer to the main event of the night.

MJF vs. Mike Bailey – AEW World Title Eliminator Match

  • The finish of the match saw MJF plant Mike Bailey with a Heat Seeker for the win.

Winner: MJF

After the match, MJF recovers before attacking a fallen Mike Bailey. Kenny Omega gets up from commentary and rushes in for the save, but Friedman exits the ring and runs to the ramp, where he screams that he’ll see Omega on April 12.

We then see Bailey raising Omega’s hand as the show goes off the air.

Grade: A+

Match of the night in this writer’s opinion. These two really topped Will Ospreay vs. PAC. Mike Bailey continues to prove why AEW is the right place for him to wrestle. He seems like a natural fit for the promotion. As for MJF, he rarely wrestles on AEW Dynamite, but every time he does, it’s a guaranteed banger.

Overall Grade: B+

In-ring action was the highlight of this week’s AEW Dynamite. Chris Jericho’s return suffered from the pyro botch. Even Tony Schiavone looked frustrated about getting cut off due to the apparent production error.

Speaking of Jericho, he should have gotten a bigger pop, but the Winnipeg crowd didn’t bring much energy to his return. MJF referencing Omega’s health issues left this writer a bit concerned about the former AEW World Champion.

On the subject of the world title, the AEW World Championship program is probably the strongest storyline in the company right now. Let’s see what comes out of the AEW Dynasty main event next Sunday.

That’s all for tonight, and this writer will be back next week with live Dynamite coverage.
