The 56-year-old performer lost his life Sunday night at Arena Internacional in Ciudad Juárez after a high-risk maneuver went horribly wrong during a live match.

Reports stated that Calzada Salazar attempted a dive from the top rope during the match but fell heavily onto the concrete floor outside the ring. Municipal police from the Centro district said the wrestler struck his head directly on the floor after the landing went wrong.
Emergency services and paramedics quickly arrived after authorities received calls regarding an unconscious person inside the venue. However, according to officials cited in local reports, Calzada Salazar suffered a fatal neck injury and died at the scene.
The building was later evacuated while forensic officials and investigators inspected the area. Authorities also reportedly requested operating permits and contingency plans from the venue owner following the incident.
Calzada Salazar had built a reputation on the independent wrestling circuit for his fearless, high-risk style, which earned him the nickname “The Suicide Pilot.” News of his passing led to reactions across the wrestling industry, including messages from wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer and former TNA star Christopher Daniels.
Daniels later clarified that he had initially mistaken the late wrestler for another performer with a similar name before offering condolences. He wrote, “My condolences to the family and friends of the luchador who passed, a terrible tragedy regardless.”
The incident has also renewed conversations around safety standards and risks within independent wrestling. Further details regarding memorial arrangements have not yet been announced.
