The rivalry between Chris Jericho and Tommaso Ciampa took a new turn on the July 1 episode of AEW Dynamite, when Ciampa nearly used a power drill on Jericho during a wild backstage fight. With their Beach Break match just around the corner, both wrestlers couldn’t hold back from laying their hands on each other as security struggled to keep them apart.
The chaos started during a backstage interview with Renee Paquette. She was talking to Ciampa about his upcoming match with Jericho when the veteran suddenly appeared and smashed a trash can into Ciampa’s head, turning the interview into an all-out brawl.
Tommaso Ciampa nearly attacks Chris Jericho with a power drill
Jericho’s surprise attack led to a brawl that quickly spilled into the loading area backstage. Security rushed in, but Ciampa wasn’t interested in stopping.
Ciampa threw one security guard over a table before grabbing a shopping cart and slamming it into Jericho. Even with more officials rushed to break things up. However, Ciampa kept pushing through them.
The most brutal moment came when Tommasso Ciampa picked up a power drill from the loading area. He held the spinning drill dangerously close to Chris Jericho’s head before Jericho managed to pull away just in time.
The fight continued near the back of a truck, where security again tried to separate them. But Jericho fought back, diving out of the truck and taking Ciampa down with a flying attack.
After a long struggle, more security finally arrived and managed to pull both men apart before the situation got even worse.
Their feud started after Double or Nothing, when Ciampa shocked fans by attacking Jericho shortly after the veteran returned to AEW following a lengthy absence. Back to his “Psycho Killer” character, Ciampa claimed he had 1,004 reasons to hate Jericho.
Jericho fired back by repeatedly calling him “Tommy,” knowing it annoyed Ciampa.
The rivalry became even more heated on AEW Collision, where Ciampa won a match and locked in the “Walls of Ciampa,” a clear reference to Jericho’s famous Walls of Jericho submission.
During another confrontation, Ciampa slammed Jericho into the steel ring steps, leaving him bleeding. Jericho later promised revenge in a video message.
He finally got that chance on Dynamite when he interrupted Ciampa’s interview.
