Mt. Killamanjaro: Robbing the Cashbox – My Take on the Cena/Lesnar Situation

Wrestlezone writer and co-host of the Voice of Wrestling, Good Ole’ Chris Cash recently posted a column all about John Cena going over Brock Lesnar at Extreme Rules, and the smart fans’ perceived inability to get over it. I’m not going to try and twist Chris’ words, let’s just take a sample from his most recent editorial and go from there:

“Let’s call a spade a spade here and get to the real issue, which is the fact it was John Cena that beat him. That’s the reason some of you are still holding on to it. It’s also costing you the ability to look at Lesnar/HHH objectively.

Smart fans are the only ones that still care Lesnar lost that match. And it makes no sense. Did you think it was going to be a real fight? Is wrestling only entertainment and fake when it doesn’t include a former UFC fighter?

First of all, if Chris is correct and the vast majority of you “smart wrestling fans” simply can’t get past this because, lo and behold, John Cena went over another big name…you really do need to get over it.

But it’s Brock Lesnar!

So what? People were saying “but it’s the Undertaker!” and “but it’s the Rock!” when Lesnar was ripping through top draws on a monthly basis. Same with Randy Orton and the whole “Legend Killer” gimmick. The big difference here is that Orton and Cena stuck around to become top draws and define a new era; there was a long-term payoff for their dominance. Lesnar cashed his last paycheck, took his ball and went to the Vikings. Lesnar doesn’t care about long-term, and Lesnar doesn’t care about professional wrestling; Lesnar cares about Lesnar.

Vince McMahon doesn’t own the octagon, he owns the squared-circle. If anything, John Cena should go over Brock Lesnar in 2012, 10-out-of-10 times, purely on principle.
