Warrior took his big win in the main event of Survivor Series and sprinted full force into the 1990 Royal Rumble match. During the Rumble, then-WWE Champion Hulk Hogan accidentally eliminated The Warrior following the first ever epic confrontation between the two – an intense test of strength that saw neither man gain an advantage.
Billed as the “Ultimate Challenge”, both Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior put their most prized possession – the WWE Championship and Intercontinental Championship – on the line, where the winner would become the undisputed champion of the WWE.
While not a technical classic, the match between Hogan and Warrior will live in wrestling fan's minds forever. The final moments, with Hulk handing over the title, represented a changing in the guard. Warrior was now “the man” in sports entertainment. Whether or not that paradigm lasted is a discussion for a different day, but on April 1, 1990 in front of over 67,000 Canadian wrestling fans, the legacy of the Hall of Fame Ultimate Warrior was cemented in the record books forever.
