Stars in Progress: Sheamus Boosts the Intercontinental Championship, Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt, The Miz’s Return Sucks & TNA’s 6-Sided Ring

Step Down: The Miz

file_166391_2_MANIA-MIZ-3Unfortunately, Chris Jericho’s return has intentionally overshadowed that of The Miz. I may have been only 1 in 1,000 fans who was excited for the return of Miz, but I’ve always thought he was a great heel. Yes, he’s overly cocky, intensely annoying, and overcompensates for his lack of size, strength, or natural athletic ability – but that’s his character! Did he “deserve” to be WWE Champion? Better question – does it matter?

His time as champ lasted 160 days, but I remember things about that reign almost four years later. I remember Jerry Lawler coming out of retirement for a TLC match that was way better than it had any right to be. I remember Alex Riley as his apprentice. And of course, we all remember him in the main event of WrestleMania against WWE’s poster boy, John Cena. Can you distinguishing between the FIVE title reigns John Cena has had since then? Tell me, what happened during Alberto del Rio’s title reign? Randy Orton had the belt for 161 days and all I ever heard from fans online was how bored they were. So if you really think about it, Miz might not be your favorite “wrestler”, but he knows how to get under your skin, and personally I think he was a memorable WWE Champion.

What’s he done lately… ? He filmed a straight-to-DVD movie none of us are going to watch. I don’t understand why WWE isn’t consistently using him in a top heel role. Everything from Miz and Morrison, to WWE Champion, to the Awesome Truth – everything Miz has done as a heel worked at a basic, “I hate this guy’s guts” emotional level. PUSH. THE. MIZ.
