Top 10 Moments of NXT Takeover: R Evolution – WWE’s Love Letter to Indie Fans

 #6 – Go To…Wait For It…

When I mentioned it on Twitter, it seemed like this went over some people’s head, so I’ll mention it again because it’s worth paying attention to.

Near the end of the match, Hideo Itami hoisted Viktor onto his shoulders, and the crowd had one very large collective mark-out session. Even the announce team sold it – likely because Corey Graves recognized what was going on.

If you don’t know, Hideo Itami – formerly known as Kenta all around the world – is the creator of the GTS, popularized by former WWE Champion CM Punk. Itami hasn’t used it, and hasn’t even teased using it, since arriving in NXT. Given how the company currently fels about Punk, it’s not likely he’ll ever be able to incorporate it into his standard arsenal.

All that aside, I just loved that moment, and thought it deserved to be recognized. Props to Hideo for being smart enough to fit it into a show where the crowd was overwhelmingly filled with “smart fans” who knew what to expect. Props to the Ascension for drawing MASSIVE heat for making sure the move didn’t go off.
