Isenberg Reacts: WWE Raw “An Unexpected Star Fuels Raw in Omaha”

Charlotte vs. Paige

The Women’s champion Charlotte works on a ground and pound, hitting knees to Paige. Charlotte slams Paige to the mat, but Paige rolls her up for a 2 count. Paige drops Charlotte with some kicks, some knees and a running knee to the face. Charlotte goes up for a moonsault but Paige cuts her off. Paige tries for a superplex and headbutts her right before hitting the superplex. Charlotte counters a pin attempt with one of her own. Paige nails Charlotte and locks in the PTO.

Charlotte is able to grab the ropes and then sends her face first into the turnbuckles. Nattie distracts Charlotte for a minute and Paige takes advantage of the distraction and hits a fall-away slam.. Ric Flair comes down to ringside and yells at Natalya, which distracts Paige. Shane brings out officials and they take Ric Flair out of the building. Charlotte looks on and Paige rolls her up from behind for the win.

This was a really great contest between Paige and Charlotte, with a funky ending. Ric Flair seems to be more at the focal point of Charlotte’s success over her ability. There IS a way to make a heel great without having a manager or partner help them. I love the idea of Paige sneaking a win, especially with Ric banned from ringside. You need to give Charlotte another big win, but this time on her own. She has the tools to be great and showcased it in the ring tonight. As for Paige, please let her be a vital part of your summer plans in the Women’s Division. She is just too good.

Maybe Sami Zayn Does Not Need a Gimmick

Many people are loving Sami Zayn and I am one of them. The debate of Sami Zayn and “who he is” has been a hot button topic for many people, but I wonder if we really need to know what type of character he is. I feel that Sami is so good that he can just be himself and not have to alter his gimmick. He reminds me of a more athletic and high risk Bret Hart.

Bret Hart’s gimmick was very simple, very generic. He did not have incredible promo abilities, but sold himself on what he could do in the ring. Why can’t Sami Zayn be the same? He might be the best overall wrestler in WWE. He is more sound and more traditional than a Neville. Neville is splash and flash while Sami has it all in the ring. Let Sami be himself and worry about WWE giving him talent to work with. Sami is good at being himself and being very natural and organic.
